- > The role of dental practitioners as part of an oral cancer prevention campaign with focus on early detection of oral cancer.
In Germany, around 13000 cases of oral and pharyngeal cancer are now diagnosed per year. Studies have shown considerable lack of knowledge, especially about oral cancer. From 2012 to 2014, a statewide awareness campaign was launched with focus on the target group of people over 50 years old. The campaign has been laid out as a combination of an evaluated media mix accompanied by a comprehensive scientific evaluation. Dental and medical professionals were integrated from the very beginning regarding their role of early detection. Active participation, in the form of ordering informational material on the campaign, was longitudinally evaluated over the campaign period.
