Learning Objectives

  • Characteristics of xenogenous bone blocks
  • > Clinical management of this type of bone block according to the concept of guided bone regeneration
  • > Indications and limitations of this procedure

The successful healing outcomes of deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) blocks in animal studies have been reported (Simion et al 2006; Schwarz et al 2008, 2010; Rothamel et al 2009). Few case reports and clinical studies have evaluated the use of DBBM blocks (Hämmerle et al 2008; Felice et al 2008, 2010).
The aim of this presentation is to show the clinical results of a case series in which patients were treated using DBBM blocks according to the principles of guided bone regeneration from 2011 to 2015 for horizontal ridge augmentation.
