Nowadays we don’t look only for predictive treatments, but also efficient ones. In this sense, we want our treatments to be faster, with less effort for the operator and better accepted by our patients. Non-surgical periodontal treatment, together with a well-established maintenance protocol, has been shown to be highly predictable. Trying to be more efficient, many new technologies are being launched on the market, but few have been well documented. Among them, new ultrasonic devices which can reduce patient’s discomfort, lasers and air-abrasive systems will be reviewed.
