Research publishing is a means of communicating new data, thoughts and ideas. Research is characterized as basic, translational, and clinical, and can include health service research. Researchers and clinicians describe their findings in the literature to increase the body of evidence that will lead to professional advancements.

Dental journals differ in their focus from other clinical and surveillance research and should select appropriate journals. This course will review all aspects of publishing in dental journals, including the types of publications, manuscript components and peer-review process. Time will be allocated for questions.
