Oral health is essential to general health and quality of life. The need for preventive based, multidisciplinary and patient- centered models of care has been identified by health services as being important to improving patient oral health, and the effectiveness of service delivery. This new model of dental practice has significant implications for dental education and requires a commitment by dental schools to add this training to the predoctoral curriculum.
