|Dr. Oscar Castro Reino
President of the Spanish Dental Association
|On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 105th FDI World Dental Congress, please allow me to invite you to this exceptional global event. Our country, Spain, did already have the honour and responsibility of organizing an FDI Congress in 1998, in Barcelona.
Spain has a total population of 46.5 million inhabitants, is a member of the EU since 1986, and holds the 12th position of economic development in the world.
Until the entry of Spain into the EU, oral care was provided by medical specialists in Stomatology. Today, Dentistry is an independent degree from medical studies.
The FDI 2017 Congress will be held in the city of Madrid, the capital of Spain. Madrid, with more than 3 million inhabitants, is a city well connected with all continents, and accustomed to receiving friends from all over the world. It is a modern, cosmopolitan and open city. It has more than 140 museums, 5000 restaurants and more than 300 subway stations. Its Adolfo Suárez-Barajas airport connects daily the city to 177 metropolises and has an annual traffic of 42 million passengers. Madrid is not only an advanced, sophisticated and historic city, but also magical, passionate and surprising.
The Madrid Convention Centre, where the FDI World Dental Congress will be held in 2017, represents the state of the art as far as venues for assembling people and exchanging ideas is concerned, and its versatility is its primary feature. Its rooms and spaces can be easily adapted to any kind of meeting, ranging from board meetings involving ten or fifteen people to Conventions or Congresses of more than two thousand.
Spain is a welcoming and friendly European country, familiar with cultural fusion. Our past undeniably unites us to Arab culture, and our affective bonds with South America are totally obvious.
For all these reasons, I look forward to welcoming you in Madrid
